Madagascar’s rollercoaster at CHAN 2024 continued with a giant stride to the semifinals of the tournament.
The Islanders strolled past co-hosts Kenya 4-3 in post match penalties in the first quarterfinal played at the Moi International Sports Center – Kasarani, Nairobi on Friday, 22nd August 2025.
Normal time of the end-to-end contest had ended in a one all draw after 120 minutes of entertaining and grueling football.
After a goalless opening half, Gor Mahia defender Alphonce Omija put Kenya in the lead three minutes into the second half.
Fenohasina Razafimaro brought the game level as the Elgeco Plus midfielder struck a penalty in the 71st minute.


The normal 90 minutes ended 1-all before an additional 30 minutes were played, with no further goals before Senegalese referee Diouf called for the full-time whistle to call for post-match penalties.
In the tense penalty shoot-out, Madagascar won 4-3 to storm the semifinals.
Nantenaina Randriamanampisoa, Lalaina Cliver Rafanomezantsoa, Fenohasina Razafimaro and Toky Rakotondraibe scored Madagascar.
Only Heriniaina Randrianirina missed his kick.

For Kenya, Mohammed Siraj, Daniel Sakari and Sylvester Owino netted.
Michael Kibwage and Alphonce Omija missed their respective kicks to the agony of the co-hosts.
Tanzania face Morocco in the second semi-final at the Benjamin Mpaka National stadium in Dar-es-Salaam city.
