The Toyota Buffaloes are currently sitting on top of the National 7s Series table after 3 stops.

The Kyadondo-based side, which was once known as the Kings of 7s Rugby, is on a mission to regain that lost glory that they once enjoyed around 2013 to 2015 when their squad boasted of players like James Odong and Eric Kasita who featured for the National 7s Team.

Now that the Buffaloes are trying to rebuild a competitive 7s side with youngsters like Daniels Otim and Humphrey Ndahura, adopting the principle of consistency is going to go a long way in achieving this goal.

Having made it to the Quarterfinal stage of all seven circuits of last year’s National 7s Series, with 5 Semifinal appearances and 2 finals without winning any, the Buffaloes made it their mission to better their best and they have already done just that.

This year, they have featured in the semifinals of the three circuitsplayed thus far, finished 3rd at the Coronation 7s, won the Gulu 7s and finished runners-up at the Entebbe 7s.

In comparison to the Heathens, who finished 2nd, 9th and 1st respectively, it has been the consistency of the Buffaloes that has got them to the top this far. Both Kyadondo sides have won a 7s circuit each, and finished in two finals, but while Heathens’ worst finish so far has been 9th, for the Buffaloes, 3rd place is the least they have managed.

Staying close to the top is a deliberate move from the Buffaloes as noted by Coach Charles Onen; “A podium finish is a good place to be and requires hard work. The team has a chance to do better than last season, so the medal bracket is the way to go.”

The Buffaloes now turn their attention to the Rujumba 7s where they finished 5th last year, and hope to do better than they did on their last 7s outing to the Kings Park Arena.
