KCB-Nkumba Volleyball Club made a winning return to competitive action with a commanding 3–1 victory over Kampala University in the finals of the 2025 Nkumba University Open Championship at the Nkumba University grounds in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district.
The triumph marks the team’s first outing since taking a mid-season break in June, and it comes at a crucial time as the squad builds momentum ahead of the prestigious NSSF-KAVC International Tournament scheduled for September.

The players not only regrouped after the early setback but also imposed their authority on the game, leaving Kampala University unable to match their pace and consistency.
Jennifer Alungat and Katreena Odermaat were the most outstanding players.

Speaking after the victory, Head Coach Tonny Peter Lakony expressed pride in the team’s resilience but stressed that this was just the beginning. “This win means a lot because it is our first competition after the break,” he said. “The players are not yet at full fitness, but they showed heart and character. It gives us a strong platform to build from as we prepare for the international stage.”

After sitting out last year, KCB-Nkumba’s return is highly anticipated, and the Nkumba Open title now provides both confidence and valuable match practice as they seek to challenge for regional honours.
The Nkumba University Open Championship, a fixture that attracts strong competition annually, once again proved to be a thrilling stage for showcasing local volleyball talent.
