The 2025 National 7s Series conclude this weekend when the Buffaloes Rugby Club host the seventh and final circuit.

The Caribbean-themed tournament dubbed the Buffaloes 7s, was launched at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Thursday, ahead of the age-grade clinic on Friday and the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

As it stands, the hosts are 9 points behind the Walukuba Barbarians on the log, with fellow Kyadondo side, the Heathens, coming in a distant 3rd.

For the Buffaloes RFC chairman Kevin Okori, attaining a 3rd trophy out of the 7 circuits would be a win. “We have reduced the gap to 9 points; it is now up to Walukuba to do what they have to do. But for us, we are going for the Buffaloes trophy; we do not want it to go anywhere else,” noted Okori.

The Buffaloes chairman is cognizant of the fact that winning circuit trophies alone isn’t enough, but a team must accumulate points while at it, as well. “The way the National 7s is set up is that they award the overall accolade on points; it is about consistency. In terms of consistency, the Buffaloes did not perform in one or two of the circuits, and that is when Walukuba goose-stepped us,” Okori added.

The circuit the good chairman is referring to is the Rujumba 7s where the Buffaloes dropped off at the quarterfinal stage. At the Kyabazinga 7s, tragedy struck again when the Buffaloes failed to make it to the semifinal once again. This created a 12-point gap between the two teams at the top, but the Kabale 7s came around and the Buffaloes pulled back 3 points after claiming the title in Kigezi.

The Buffaloes and Barbarians have met in 2 finals: at the Gulu 7s and Kabale 7s, and the former has come out on top in both encounters. If they meet in the Buffaloes 7s final, it shall be a little too as the Barbarians simply need to make it to the semifinal if they are to lift the National 7s title.
