Having moved to the US at the age of four, Serwanga played college football for the Sacramento State Hornets, Pacific Tigers and the California Golden Bears.

He then signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 1998, featuring in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

Serwanga crossed over to the Washingon Redskins (2001-2002) and New York Giants (2002-2003) before concluding his career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts in 2004.

Kato grew up in a close-knit family in Sacramento, CA with siblings James, Annette, Irene, Isaac and his twin brother, all whom he loved dearly.
