The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, officially commissioned the Leju Stadium in Terego District, West Nile Region, on Thursday, 16th October 2025.
This was during a courtesy visit to Terego district, which is part of President Museveni’s presidential campaign trail.

The president thereafter addressed a mammoth gathering at the Terego stadium, which has an all-built perimeter wall fence, stands and a well-maintained green surface.
During the rally, the local leaders appealed to the President to rename the playground “Yoweri Grounds” in honour of his great leadership.



I am glad to open up Leju stadium which is a valuable addition to Terego district’s social infrastructure.

The Leju stadium commission comes at a time when the Ministry of Finance released Ug. Shs 18.43 trillion for quarter two of this financial year (2025/2026).
Of the Shs 18.43 trillion for the second quarter, the National Council of Sports (NCS) was allocated Shs 236.77 billion, whilst the Ministry of Education and Sports has Shs 172.21 billion.


The funding is a breather at a time Government is racing against time to complete several stadia for the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Uganda already has Mandela National Stadium, Hoima International Stadium and Akii Bua Stadium are all earmarked to be used for the 2027 AFCON.
Training grounds at Namboole, Kyambogo, FUFA Kadiba, Muteesa II Wankulukuku, Hoima and Lira will also be fully furnished.
Other stadia in Uganda include St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende (Wakiso), Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo War Memorial grounds), Green Light Stadium (Arua), Luo Stadium (Nebbi), Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium (Wakiso), Kakyeka Stadium (Mbarara), Pece Stadium (Gulu), Kyabazinga Stadium (Jinja), FUFA Technical Centre – Njeru (Buikwe), Lugazi Stadium (Lugazi), Mbale City Stadium, Bukedea Stadium, Fisheries Training Stadium Bugonga (Entebbe), among others.
