The annual Kinyara Golf Open tournament returns with the 27th edition at the 9-hole Kinyara Golf Club in Masindi Municipality.
This championship will take place from November 13th to 15th, 2025.
Preparations for a tranquil championship are in high gear, with the management of anchor sponsors Kinyara Sugar Limited, Kinyara Golf Club – Masindi, the Uganda Golf Union (UGU), the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA), Insurance firms, and their respective partners collaborating closely.

“We are in the final stages of organizing a successful 27th Kinyara Sugar Golf tournament in Masindi. There are close talks with all our partners, Uganda Golf Union, the professional golfers’ body and the general golfing fraternity,” Mugerwa assures.
He also gives assurance about the readiness of the playing field with the tee boxes, fairways and greens being given a facelift to give the golfers the best time on the course.

This tournament will feature different categories of golfers ranging from the gross, professionals and subsidiaries to the seniors (above 55 years of age) with varying prizes across the groups at hand.
The gross category (handicap 0 to 10) will tee off on the 13th and wind down business on the 14th for three rounds (54 holes) alongside the professionals who will play two rounds (36 holes).
The gross players will also be vying for points on the World Amateur Golf Ranking System as the professionals haggle for the money at hand.

The main cluster of golfers will then get down to action on 15th November 2025 for 18 holes’ action.
Born and bred on the Kinyara course in Masindi, Joseph Kasozi won the main gross event last year.
He faces stiff competition this year round from a crop of local talent, as the reigning Uganda Amateur Open Champion Joseph Cwinya-ai, Reagan Joseph Akena, Andrew Ssekibejja, Titus Okwong, Peter Tumusiime, John Musiimenta, Peter Mayende, Ibrahim Bagalana and the evergreen Michael Tumusiime, among others.






The professional event in 2024 was won by Grace Kasango who is expected to stage a successful title defence in a field that also has other professionals as the on-form David Kamulindwa, Vincent Byamukama, Marvin Kibirige, Irene Nakalembe, Herman Deco Mutebi, Rodel Tadeo Gaita, Abraham Ainamani, James Koto, Phillip Kasozi, Deo Akope, Herman Mutaawe, the Bagalana brothers, Henry Lujja, Opio Onito, Samuel Kato, Emmanuel Ogwang, among others.












The senior golfers (those above 55 years) will also play in either gender alongside other groups of golfers.
There are prizes for the side-bet competitions as nearest to the pin and longest drive contests.
The green fees are all fixed at Ugx 50,000 per head.
