For the first time ever, a Uganda National football side (of any level) will play at the global stage, during the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
The national U-17 football team (Cubs) tussles out with Canada in group K at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar on the evening of Wednesday, 5th November 2025.
The Cubs had a pre-tournament in Dubai as they prepared for the opposition at the world stage during the U-17 Dubai Youth Challenge Cup at the Al Hamriya Cultural and Sports Club.
The results though, were not that promising with a stalemate against Venezuela 1-all in the opener before falling to Panama (1-2) and Paraguay (2-3) in the subsequent duels.

Under head coach Brian Ssenyondo, alongside a committed technical team is a diligent, believer and committed soul.
Ssenyondo who is also a co-coach at KCCA in the Uganda Premier League expresses the readiness of the team.
“We are more than ready for action. The build up friendly tournament also further prepared us” Ssenyondo confessed.
“From the Dubai Youth Challenge Cup, we were able to work out the different partnerships and formations. The players are mentally and physically ready” Ssenyondo adds.

Key players:
The Cubs has a pool of talented young players at the technical bench disposal as the diligent Brian Jjara, clinical forward James Bogere, crafty midfielder Isima Magala, the industrious skipper Richard Okello, Abubakali Walusimbi, Simon Wanyama, John Asiimwe, goalkeepers Adrian Mukwanga, Edrisah Waibi and Gilbert Mazige as well as other players, all of whom are expected to shine on the international stage.
