This is Uganda's 7th medal overall, and the third gold medal at the 2025 Games. Swimmer Anna Gloria Muzito won the other two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle races.
Uganda’s Rebecca Chelangat produced a magical final kick to clinch a gold medal in the women’s 10,000m final at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday night.
The 22-year-old long clocked 32:11:42 ahead of Qatar’s Violah Motosio (32:13:59), who was leading by the time of the bell signal for the last lap.

Samiya Hassan Nour from Djibouti finished third to settle for bronze with a time of 32:17:72.
Another Ugandan, Annet Chemengich Chelangat, ran 32:51:33 to take fourth place whilst Qatar’s Ruth Jebet was 6th (33:10:63).

“This is a special moment for me. I thank my training colleagues. Without them, I would not have done this,” Rebecca said.
2025 has been a year to remember for Rebecca Chelangat, having triumphed in Spain at the Seville Marathon (1:07:18) with a new national record, won the 10,000m at the Gouden Spike in Leiden and the Uganda national championships.

Meanwhile, Leonard Chemutai finished fourth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and Javelin thrower Josephine Joyce Lalam did not complete after injuring her knee in her first attempt.
Action continues on Tuesday with Athletics as Abel Chebet competes in the men’s 10,000m finals and a couple of middle-distance races.
Wrestling will also commence on the day, but Uganda only gets into action on Wednesday.
