After missing out on the last two editions’ award, he becomes the first Moroccan to clinch the prestigious award after compatriot Moustapha Hadji in 1998.

Morocco and PSG right back Achraf Hakimi is the CAF Player of the Year 2025.

The defender was crowned at the prestigious ceremony in Rabat, Morocco beating Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen who plays for Galatasaray in Turkey.

Hakimi helped Morocco qualify for the 2026 World Cup unbeaten and also navigate the Afcon 2025 qualifiers with no defeat, won the UEFA Champions League and Ligue I with PSG.

After missing out on the last two editions’ award, he becomes the first Moroccan to clinch the prestigious award after compatriot Moustapha Hadji in 1998.

“It’s really an honour for me to win this prestigious trophy,” he said. “This trophy is not just for me – it is for all the Africans that have dreams.”

On a dominant night for Morocco, Ghizlane Chebbak won the women’s prize, beating Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Atlas Lionesses team-mate Sanaa Mssoudy.

The winners are voted for by a panel of experts, which includes members of Caf’s technical committee plus African media professionals, players and coaches.
