Caf Confederation cup winners RS Berkane also won by the same score line against Zambia’s Power Dynamos, Vipers’ conquerors.

Goals from Aaron Katebe, a sharp finish from Mounir Chouiar, and Paul Bassène’s second-half penalty secured the win for the Moroccans.

In group B, record champions Al Ahly won 4–1 win over JS Kabylie in Cairo.

Trezeguet scored twice, Mohamed Sherif added another, and a late Kabylie own goal sealed a convincing victory.

Tanzania’s Young Africans also started decently beating FAR Rabat 1–0 in Zanzibar thanks to Prince Dube’s instinctive second-half finish.

There were also wins for Sundowns and Al Hilal in group C with the Denis Onyango’s side beating DR Congo’s St. Eloi Lupopo 3-1 with a brace from Nuno Santos and another strike from Marcello Allende.

Al Hilal also earned a gritty 2–1 victory over MC Alger in Kigali. Goals from Abdelrazek Omar and Mohamed Abdelrahman (“Al Gharbal”) secured the points despite Hilal finishing with 10 men.

Elsewhere, Simba were beaten 1-0 at home by Angola’s Petro Atletico with a winner from Benny.

In the same group, Tunisia’s Esperance were held by Mali’s Stade Malien in Tunis.
