Uganda's Shamirah Nabaadda is among the 28 center referees short listed for the tourney. The CECAFA zone also has Burundian Pacifique Ndahibawenimana, Kenya’s Peter Waweru Kamaku, Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda, Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia) and Mahmood Ali Mahmood Ismail from Sudan.

Fresh from being named the CAF Referee of the Year, Uganda’s female FIFA referee Shamira Nabadda is making giant strides.

Nabadda is the only referee from Uganda among the 73 referees who will officiate at the prestigious 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.

She is among the 28 center referees shortlisted for the tourney.

The CECAFA zone also has Burundian Pacifique Ndahibawenimana, Kenya’s Peter Waweru Kamaku, Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda, Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia) and Mahmood Ali Mahmood Ismail from Sudan.

There are 31 assistant referees and 14 Video Match Officials (VMOs).

Uganda is pooled in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania. For the opener, the Uganda Cranes shall face Tunisia at the Rabat Olympic Stadium in Rabat on 23rd December 2025.

Hosts Morocco will face Comoros in the official opening match on 21st December 2025 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

AFCON 2025 will be held in Morocco from 21st December 2025 to 18th January 2026 in six different cities across nine venues.

Ivory Coast is the defending champion.
