NEC secured a slim 1-0 victory against Calvary in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Once again, NEC looked blunt and failed to fully impose its presence against a hapless Calvary side that is winless in seven games and currently without a head coach.

Charles Waibi netted the lone strike as NEC secured maximum points in front of the home crowd.

The hosts came out of their blocks early, looking for an early goal but Calvary soaked in the pressure.

NEC suffered a big blow as Siraje Sentamu was carried off the pitch after a head collision that left him on the ground helplessly. Shamir Kimwero replaced the defensive midfielder.

Calvary nearly found the lead in the 35th minute but Ronald Olado’s effort was miscued in front of the goal.

With four minutes to end the opening stanza, Mustapha Kizza’s freekick kissed the crossbar before going out of play.

Seven minutes into the second half, Olado was presented with another chance in front of goal but sent his effort above the crossbar.

NEC was awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute after Eric Otingcwinyu handled the ball in the box but Calvary’s goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru saved Innocent Media’s attempt.

Waibi finally found the breakthrough in the 72nd minute after being set up by Innocent Media.

The victory sends NEC to the ninth position with nine points while Calvary lie at the bottom of the log with a point after seven games played.
