Makur Maker inspired South Sudan to a 109–79 victory over Cape Verde with an outstanding performance in his second game for the Bright Stars.

The win means South Sudan will complete the first round of Group A of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Africa Qualifiers at the top of the table.

Unlike their opener against Libya, the Bright Stars (2-0) got off to a flying start, exploding for 39 first-quarter points while limiting the Islanders to 22.

Maker, who shot a perfect 5-for-5 from deep, finishing with a game-high 23 points, set the tone for South Sudan early on and never slowed down.

By the halftime break, South Sudan had a 27-point lead, and there was no way back for Cape Verde

Deng Adel and Both Tut Gach contributed 21 points each while Deng Acouth (11) and Lok Wur (10) also scored in double figures for South Sudan.

Ivan Almeida netted a team-high 17 points in a losing effort. Joel Almeida and Patrick Lima had 14 points each while Anderson Correia (13) and Kenneti Mendes (11) also scored in double digits for Cape Verde who suffered their largest ever losing margin in the history of the World Cup African Qualifiers.

The two sides return to action on Sunday, November 30 as South Sudan takes on Cameroon while Cape Verde will play Libya.
