How they qualified: Egypt qualified as group C winners from a relatively easier group that had world cup debutants Cape Verde, Botswana and Mauritania.

Their campaign was invincible with four victories and two stalemates scoring 12 goals and conceded just two in the process.

Realistic chance at Afcon 2025: The record African champions have not a won a single title since winning three in a row in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

The target is always to win the championship and will go into the tournament as one of the favourites but realistically, playing beyond the semis will be huge achievement.

Mohammed Salah

Who is the star of the team? Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is one of the greatest to come from Egypt but he knows he has to win his country a trophy to be considered a big-time legend.

This could probably be the last tournament for him given his age but he has teammates that can lift him as well.
