The world football governing body, FIFA, has extended the player release date for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The initial player release date was set to be December 8; however, the date has been extended for seven days, allowing the African stars to join their sides on December 15.
The decision aligns with FIFA’s initiative to ensure that players participate in the AFCON tournament with international regulations.
It also aims to provide players with some time to prepare and connect with teammates before the continental tournament gets underway.
The directive applies to all players registered with clubs, regardless of whether they participate in domestic or European leagues.
The tournament will be hosted in Morocco and will get underway on Sunday, December 21, before it is finalised on Sunday, January 18.
