Sam Ssimbwa’s tenure as Paul Put’s assistant on the Uganda Cranes has come to end, Kawowo Sports can reliably report.
Ssimbwa has been part of Put’s staff since he was appointed as the national team coach.
Recently, the Belgian renewed his contract until 2018 but Fufa was reluctant to do the same for Ssimbwa, the only Ugandan coach who applied for the national team job before Put was handed the mantle.
It means Put will have a new Ugandan assistant as the team prepares for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations due in Morocco this month, where they are in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania.
Either Morley Byekwaso (unattached) or Fred Muhumuza (Vipers assistant) will be named on the technical staff.
The duo, under the watchful eye of Put, managed the team during the CHAN tournament in August and guided the side out of the group stages for the first time.
