Overview:

As per the UPL fixture, the league will go into break after match day eleven with Entebbe UPPC hosting Kitara being the last match on December 18.

The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in over a fortnight and Uganda Cranes’ final preparations officially started on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Paul Put named a 30-man provisional squad that will be trimmed to 28 players, with CAF revealing December 11 as the date for submission of the final squad.

Nine local based players travelled to Morocco on Sunday with nine local based players including Masaka Sunshine’s James Bogere, fresh from the Fifa World Cup U17.

Reigning Premier League champions Vipers and KCCA have the most contributions with players each and record winners SC Villa with two.

Allan Okello, Hilary Mukundane, Rogers Torach (Vipers), Charles Lukwago, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza (Vipers SC), David Owori and Reagan Mpande (SC Villa) form the contingent from the Uganda Premier League.

With two fixtures remaining in the UPL until the Afcon break, the trio will have to do without those key players.

KCCA have already tasted that with a hard-fought 2-1 win over BUL on Sunday and could still be without them for the next two matches against NEC (December 12) and Buhimba United Saints (December 16).

Vipers travel to Calvary on Tuesday (December 9), then host BUL (December 13) and finally visit Lugazi (December 17), probably without Okello, Mukundane and Torach.

For the Jogoos, they could play two home matches against URA (December 11) and Calvary (December 17) without both Mpande and captain Owori.

Afcon break

As per the UPL fixture, the league will go into a break after match day eleven, with Entebbe UPPC hosting Kitara being the last match on December 18.

The UPL will then return on January 15, 2026, regardless of how far Uganda will have gone as the Afcon ends three days earlier.

Uganda is in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and neighbours Tanzania.
