Overview:

The two medals from Table Tennis by Joseph Sebatindira and Jemimah Nakawala took Uganda’s tally at the games to three (all bronze). Young female athlete Keren Chelimo finished third in the women’s 3000M race to earn the first bronze for Uganda.

Uganda shot to three bronze medals at the on-going fourth African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola.

Table Tennis duo of Joseph Sebatindira and Jemima Nakawala won a bronze medal apiece during the singles’ competition.

After a smooth run from the group matches,12-year-old  Sebatindira faced a stern test at the semi-final stage, falling 1-4  to Tunisia’s Youssef Aidli (reigning under 15 African Champion).

The Nakasero Primary School primary five pupil then lost the third-place duel 2-3 to Nigerian, Mathew Fabunmi to settle for bronze.

15-year-old Nakawala who is in S3 at Kibuli Secondary School also lost 1-4 to Egyptian Elbadawy at the semifinal level.

For the third place duel, she won 3-2 over Algerian Morice Tania.

This was a brave performance from the two Ugandans who have recently returned from the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Alvin Katumba, their head coach is full of praise for the players.

“Two continental medals are good enough and we cannot ask them (the players) for more. I am honoured for their diligence and brevity much as the target was gold” Katumba revealed.

Uganda also has representation in Swimming, DanceSport and Basketball (3X3).

Isaac Kuc competed in the 100 free style and he posted 0:56:71 finishing 5th. He finished 10th overall and was among the reserves.
