Prince Clemens Wenzel Lothar Metternich (1773-1859), an Austrian statesman, is famously quoted “When France sneezes, the rest of Europe catches a cold”.
Here, Metternich was referring to France’s political and social upheavals, as revolutions or major policy shifts, having powerful ripple effects across Europe.
The same is told of Uganda’s most successful football entity, Sports Club Villa (with 17 national league and 9 Uganda Cup titles).
Every time there is a trigger within the management of Sports Club Villa, the rest of the county’s football coffers feel the shake-up and tremble.
During the recent weeks, a section of Sports Club Villa’s faithful questioned the legal standing of the current team management, whilst others demanded full accountability of the club’s finances.

These are some of the concerns that have dominated Uganda’s airwaves through the print and electronic media.
It is upon this background that the Sports Club Villa Trustee members have come up to address the matters during a media interface at the City Oil plant in Kamwokya on Tuesday, 16th December 2025.
Gerald Ssendaula, the chairperson for the board of Trustees, was flanked by other members: Patrick “Guy” Kawuma, Franco Mugabe, Moses Matovu and the club legal personnel, Isaac Walukagga from MMAKS Advocates.

“We are here to clarify what has been going on in the media of late about our club, SC Villa. There are the right structures to which members have to channel their concerns rather than the media,” Ssendaula, also a former FUFA President (1979 to 1980), remarked.
The 82-year-old retired banker, a former finance minister in the Government of Uganda (1998 to 2005), spoke of the money acquired from Uganda Roads National Authority (UNRA) as compensation.

“We received Ug. Shs 3 billion and 20 million as compensation from UNRA. This money was invested as a fixed deposit and has since accumulated to Ug. Shs 4.5 billion in two years at the rate of 34 per cent per month. We plan to buy land for stadium construction, possibly along Entebbe Road. The whole process is now pending this busy electoral process in the country,” Ssendaula spoke.
Ssendaula also hinted at the roadmap to the club elections expected in three months’ time.

“We are aware that the tenure of office for the Sports Club Villa executive expired in November 2025. November was the start of the league and there will also be political business in the country. We asked for a grace period of three months as a committee will be tasked to organize peaceful elections for the club,” he added.
The Jogoos, who are currently coached by Serbian national Kovacevic Zeliko, have had a relatively stellar display in the 2025/26 season, fetching 20 points off 10 games as they are in fourth position on the 16-team log.
