South Africa secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Angola in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) encounter at Stade de Marrakech on Monday.
The victory ended a six-game winless run against Angola since 2015. In the last five meetings, Angola won three and made three draws.
Oswin Appollis fired the Bafana Bafana ahead with a powerful low strike inside the left goal post in the 21st minute.
Fourteen minutes later, midfielder Show levelled matters after guiding Fredy’s freekick into the back of the net. The leveller brought back alot of life in the game.
Tshenga Moremi thought he had regained South Africa’s lead in the 50th minute but the goal was ruled out for offside after the VAR review.
South Africa kept pushing but Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s fierce effort bounced off the frame after beating Angola’s custodian.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, Lyle Foster found the back of the net with a sweet curling effort past goalkeeper Hugo Marques into the back of the net.
The victory takes South Africa on top of Group B with three points after the first game.
