Uganda Christian University (UCU) secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Nkumba University in the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) quarterfinal encounter.
Isaac Apenyu and Reagan Ssekisambu were on target as the Cardinals secured a sweet victory in front of the home crowd.
Nkumba University tightened at the back as they dragged UCU in the halftime break without breaking through.
Apenyu broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, sending the crowd in full jubilation and chanting after Nkumba lost a bit of concentration.
In added time, Ssekisambu put the icing on the cake as the Cardinals secured a sweet victory.
UCU’s progression to the last four is a testament to their determination since they qualified as one of the best runners-up.
Elsewhere, Kampala University ejected the defending champions, Uganda Martyrs University, after a penalty shootout.
Calvin Peter Emayo gave Nkozi the lead before Gilbert Wanume levelled matters to drag the game into penalties.
Kampala University held its nerves before edging Uganda Martyrs University 6-5 on penalties.
Kevin Ssekimbega’s lonely strike from the penalty spot gave Makerere University a 1-0 victory against Makerere University Business School.
In the final quarterfinal game, Islamic University in Uganda held St Lawrence in a goalless draw before defeating them on penalties.
