Moulay Hassan, the Crown Prince for the Kingdom of Morocco greets fans before the official 2025 AFCON match between Morocco and Comoros

Overview:

The good news earlier in the day was the resumption of training for Uganda Cranes after sitting out Saturday’s session.

The weather in the Kingdom of Morocco is cold. Really cold. The coldness and the endless rains on Sunday did not deter the warm hearts for the numerous Morocco citizens to express self during the official opening of the 35th edition of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Eight degrees and even lower is way to down for someone like me who is used to the warm Tropical weather conditions.

The coldness aside, there are means to solider on and mitigate the situation because the prestigious AFCON is already on.

Hosts Morocco overcame Comoros 2-0 at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah courtesy of two second half goals from Brahim Abdelkader Diaz and super substitute Ayoub El Kaabi.

Before the match, there was a colourful opening ceremony graced by Moulay Hassan, the Crown Prince for the Kingdom of Morocco, the CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

The Prince donned in a designer black suit executed a deft chip on the ball much to the applause of the crowd.

The level of humility from the Prince as he hugged each player of the Morocco team amid the rain drizzles was humbling.

Hundreds of spectators filled up the gigantic stadium with a sea of red visible.
