The curtain officially rose on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with hosts Morocco taking on Comoros in an opening game filled with anticipation, colour and resilience.
I arrived early at the stadium to capture the full story of the day—long before kick-off. From tight security checks and diligent cleaners putting the final touches to the venue, to journalists interviewing fans as they arrived, the build-up painted a complete picture of the occasion. Among them were our own Kawowo Sports journalists, engaging supporters, capturing reactions, predictions, and the raw excitement ahead of the opening match.
As kickoff approached, the stands came alive, setting the tone for what was always going to be a special opening night. Then came the rain—heavy and relentless. It didn’t disrupt play, though; it tested players and even forced my camera to take a brief timeout. Still, the spirit of AFCON refused to be dampened.
Through the downpour, the football went on, the fans stayed loud, and I pushed through to document every moment that mattered—from the action on the pitch to the emotion in the stands.
Rain or shine, AFCON 2025 is officially underway, and if the opening game was anything to go by, Africa is in for a memorable tournament.
