Burkina Faso secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Equatorial Guinea in the African Cup of Nations at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Wednesday.
Two goals in stoppage time were the difference as Burkina Faso fought from a goal down to beat the 10-man Equatorial Guinea.
Bertrand Traore and Issoufou Dayo had early chances to place Burkina Faso in the driving seat but failed to capitalise on them.
Dango Outtara found himself in a decent position in front of goal but squandered a great opportunity to give Burkina Faso the lead as he failed to go past defender Pablo Ganet midway through the opening stanza.
Five minutes into the opening stanza, Equatorial Guinea were reduced to 10 men after the VAR Check switched Basilo Ndong’s yellow card into a straight red card.
Lassina Traore thought he had given Burkina Faso the desired lead after his volley found the back of the net but the goal was ruled out to be offside.
Marvin Anieboh broke the deadlock in the 85th minute, placing Equatorial Guinea in the lead after connecting smartly with Carlos Akapo’s corner kick.
Georgi Minoungou levelled matters for Burkina Faso with a well-struck effort into the back of the net in added time.
Tables were further turned as Edmond Tapsoba placed the icing on the cake as Burkina Faso secured a hard-fought but sweet victory.
