Toro Golf Club’s Isaiah Mwesige has confirmed his commitment to competitive golf in 2026.

This followed a breakthrough 2025 season that signaled his arrival among the region’s elite amateur golfers.

Mwesige, a member of the Fort Portal–based Toro Golf Club, enjoyed a remarkable year in which he reduced his playing handicap from 5 to 1.

This is a significant milestone that underlined his consistency, discipline, and rapid development.

Throughout the season, Mwesige competed predominantly in local tournaments, where he dominated Group A competitions and registered several notable victories.

His wins included the Hima Open, the Basaliza at 100 tournament, and multiple Monthly Mug and Club Nite events.

In addition to his tournament success, he regularly featured among the longest hitters, excelling in longest drive contests and showcasing his power off the tee.

Although his competitive schedule outside Fort Portal was limited, Mwesige made a valuable appearance at the Kinyara Open in November 2025—his only away tournament of the year—where he tested his game against a broader and more competitive field.

One of the defining moments of his season came during the Toro Golf Club Players Challenge, where he produced an outstanding round of 65 gross, the best score recorded in the competition.

Reflecting on his progress, Mwesige said his improvement was the result of patience, hard work, and a focus on consistency.

“I worked hard on my consistency and mental approach throughout the year. Dropping my handicap to one was a big milestone for me, and it gave me the confidence that I can compete at a higher level,” Mwesige said.

He credited his decision to pursue competitive golf in 2026 to his strong club-level performances and the support of individuals and partners who have backed his journey, including Jorge Croda, as well as brands such as GreenUp, Grip Caddie, Trust Golf Balls Hole Life T-Shirts and Philippe Consaletti.

“Playing mostly at home helped me build confidence. The wins, especially in events like the Hima Open, showed me that I’m ready to challenge myself beyond Fort Portal,” he added.

Looking ahead, Mwesige plans to compete in several major tournaments on the Ugandan golf calendar and is also targeting selected open championships in Kenya and Rwanda later in 2025 as part of his build-up to the 2026 season.

As he prepares for the next phase of his career, Mwesige is also open to forming new partnerships and collaborations with individuals and brands interested in supporting his competitive ambitions in 2026.
