Cameroon defeated South Africa 2-1 in the Round of 16 at the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco on Sunday night.
A goal in each half from Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane gave the Indomitable Lions the deserved victory at the El-Barid Stadium in Rabat.
Evidence Makgopa pulled back a goal for South Africa in the closing moments of the game, but it arrived too late.

Stoke City defender Tchamadeu tapped home from close range after an initial effort from Samuel Kotto.
Bayer Leverkusen forward Kofane made it two upon resumption with a brilliant header off an inviting cross on the left wing by Rennes’ Mahamadou Nagida.
Nagida was a first-half change after Darlin Yongwa’s injury in the 21st minute.

South Africa came closest to pulling back a goal in the 68th minute but Teboho Mokoena’s free kick was pushed out for a corner kick by goalkeeper Devis Epassy.
On the break, Bryan Mbeumo orchestrated a quick counterattack before releasing Kofane but the goalkeeper Williams made a daring save.

Orlando Pirates’ forward Makgopa tapped home from close range off Aubrey Modiba’s assist from the left for South Africa’s consolation in the 89th minute.
Cameroon’s Carlos Baleba picked up a caution and will miss the quarterfinal clash.
The contest was watched by CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who also watched the early kick-off between Morocco and Tanzania.

Cameroon will face the hosts Morocco in the quarterfinals on Friday, 9th January 2026 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium (Rabat).
Morocco edged CECAFA Zone representatives Tanzania 1-0 with Brahim Diaz scoring the all-important goal.











The other confirmed quarterfinal will witness Senegal take on Mali.
The Round of 16 stage continues on Monday, 5th January 2026, with a double header. Egypt takes on Benin in the early kick-off at Grande Stade d’Agadir, before Nigeria takes on Mozambique in Fes.
