Senegal and Egypt lock horns in Tangier in a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final with both nations fighting for a place in the Afcon 2025 in Morocco.

Egypt will hope to avenge that penalty shootout defeat in Morocco over five years ago while the Lions of Teranga want to reach a third final in four editions.

There are no clear favourites in this clash and for that reason, here are the four high profile battles that could decide the match in Tangier on Wednesday.

Mohamed Salah vs El Hadji Malick Diouf

Salah has scored important goals for the Pharaohs this tournament including the ‘winner’ against Ivory Coast in the previous round.

The Liverpool man is a livewire down the right flank and when he clicks, the whole side plays well especially in attack.

Despite an underwhelming season with Liverpool, Salah is demonstrating his importance with hunger on the national team and the task to stop him is in the hands of Westham left back El Hadji Malick Diouf.

If Diouf manages to stop Salah, he has the ability to join the offence with his marauding runs as well.

Omar Marmoush vs Kalidou Koulibaly

Marmoush has led the Egyptian attacking line with dignity getting the opener in the win over Ivory Coast.

The Manchester City has been daring running at defenders and also creating openings with his clever play at no.9 but faces arguably the sternest test at Afcon when he comes up against Coulibaly.

No longer as fast as before, Coulibaly reads the game well and is a colossus.

Idrissa Gueye vs Emam Ashour

Now, this is a battle for control of the game. Gueye is the team conductor for Lions of Teranga – fights for possession neatly and is a decent passer of the ball.

Emam Ashour does this same job for the seven-time champions with class and arrogance coupled with top game intelligence.

He was in top form against The Elephants and that pass with the outside of the foot to set up Salah was the epitome of his performance on the day.

Sadio Mane vs Mohamed Hany

Mane has been the key in unlocking defences despite scoring just once but has assisted three times in this Afcon tournament.

On Wednesday, he comes up against right back Mohamed Hany and after doing a decent job against Ivory Coast danger man Diamonde, he believes he can also stop Mane.
