Sadio Mane scored the important goal as Senegal secured a spot in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Senegal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Egypt in the semifinal AFCON encounter in Tangier on Wednesday.
Right from the word go, the Lions of Teraga showed their intention to attack, thus holding more of the ball and pegging Egypt on the back foot.
Senegal suffered a big blow in the 23rd minute when captain Kalidou Koulibaly limped off the field of play due to a groin injury. Youngster Mamadou Sarr replaced him.
Habib Diara danced past his marker but his effort from distance was well collected by the experienced goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy in the 31st minute.
As the game dragged into the dying minutes, the moment of glory came in the 78th minute as Mane broke the deadlock with a powerful ground effort.
From that point, the Pharaohs threw everything at Senegal but the Lions of Teranga responded smartly, thus keeping their goal area safe.
Senegal will face the winner of the match between Morocco and Nigeria as they seek their second title on the global stage.
