The future of sport is embedded in the rich programs to ensure its organic growth and continuity.

Therefore, all deliberate efforts and programs to ensure sustainable progress in any given sport are always welcome as a storm is in a desert confine.

Such programs also give birth to a new pool of stars with a cross section of talents and skills.

It is upon this background that Uganda’s long distance star athlete Jacob Kiplimo started the Discovery Uganda race competition that this year enters its fourth edition.

The fourth edition takes place on 30th and 31st January 2026 in Kapchorwa District, a high altitude confine that has produced different long distance runners who have gone ahead to conquer the world over the years.

At least Ug.Shs 29,500,000 has been set reserved in cash prize to be given to the excelling crop of runners in the off road (Trail) and the main Discovery Uganda races.

The Trail race will open the way on 30th January before the Discovery Uganda event will follow suit on the subsequent day.

On the day of the Discovery Uganda race, there will also be categories for school children in the U-12 and U-15 pools.

 The best in the trail races for either gender will each pocket Ug.Shs 1,100,000. The runners up and third placed runners will each take home Ug.Shs 750,000 and 380,000 respectively.

For the road race, the best senior man and woman will take Ug.Shs 3,600,000 apiece.

Up to the top 7 positions will be rewarded with money of varying proportions.

The best runners in the junior category will take Ug.Shs 1,800,000 with the second pocketing Ug.Shs 900,000 and the third placed with UgR.Shs 720,000.

For the juniors, the best five positions will be rewarded.

Runners are encouraged to report to the race venue as early as 6 AM for early briefs and limbering sessions before the races proper start at 8 AM.

Start and finish is at Boma grounds in Kapchorwa District. Registration of athletes as well as kits collection is on-going at Rosa camp, Kapchorwa.
