By close of 2025, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and Commonwealth Games Uganda (CGU) remained as vibrant as an active volcano ready to splash its red hot magma.
UOC/CGU’s member affiliates, athletes, coaches, officials (administrators), close associate partners including the media all rhymed along the same wavelength for the previous 365 days.

Each party in the box planned ahead, was aggressive, openly showcased diligence, was fully committed to the due cause, remained resilient, focused and purely eyed excellence beyond the bare minimum in line with upholding the true Olympic and Commonwealth spirit across every corner of motherland Uganda.
Addressing the media during the year starter press briefing at the UOC/CGU home in Lugogo –Kampala, the president Dr Donald Rukare, first expressed gratitude for all the positive energies from the stakeholders aforementioned.

Flanked by members of the Executive committee, Dr Rukare highlighted the highs and gains that ought to be protected jealously, bridging upon such achievements to tackle the challenges vis-à-vis the low moments, easily by-passed with workable VPN’s even in times of blockage.
“2025 ended as a remarkable year” he conveyed the message in a bold and affirmative tone.
“The previous year was one of triumphs and challenges. Our athletes continued to inspire the nation with their performances, embodying the values of excellence, friendship and respect.” Dr Rukare voiced eloquently with confidence.

Token of appreciation:
Dr Rukare therefore lauded the different push factors, components and key actors in the industry as the athlete, affiliate member bodies, coach, administrative officials, sponsors and other supportive partners as the media and Government.
“I warmly extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you our member affiliates, the athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors and all the partners we work with” he applauded.
Besides a number of domestic events, there were also a couple of international competitions where Uganda left lasting impressions.
2025 in particular opened the gates to the inaugural Africa School Games in Algeria where UOC aligned with the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) and the Government for a successful championship.
Then, this was followed the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and the recently held African Youth Games in Luanda city, Angola.
What is in stock for 2026?
The virgin 2026 is up and running as it is already past mid-January. A lot is in the pipeline, a channel well protected with caution like a productive oil stream gazing zillions of crude substance.
All the engaging commissions for Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) endure sleepless nights with viable ideas documented into proposals which birth to implementation and hence forth precipitates follow up thereafter.
Planning for the annual ordinary assembly set for March 2026 is one crucial item being planned for, albeit behind the non-transparent curtains.
UOC/CGU shall also continue to implement the rich strategic plan with a mid-term review coming up.

The 10th month of the year, October will usher in the Youth Oympics that shall be hosted in the Dakar city, the capital of the newly crowned Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football champions, SENEGAL.
Efforts are also in high gear to identify rich prime land where the permanent state of art offices and headquarters of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC)/ Commonwealth Games Uganda will be constructed.
2026 is also a moving year as the country prepares and lays strategies for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles city, United States of America (USA).
