Having breaks during the season is often seen as a chance for teams to reshape and allow players opportunity to refresh from games that come thick and fast. For the case of Uganda Premier League, there has been little action since mid December last year, partly due to the 2025 AFCON.
However, the game between Maroons and KCCA played today in Luzira instead showed something else. Both teams looked rusty and that perhaps yields to the boring display on pitch in a game that ended in a barren stalemate.
Neither side really put in a shift to secure victory with scoring opportunities very few and far between.
Both KCCA and Maroons have played one game between 17th December and today, losing to Police and Buhimba United Saints respectively. That translates to just one game in 35 days.
With Maroons opting for a physical approach, KCCA were denied an oportunity to dominate posession and play their free-flowing game. That explains why coach Brian Ssenyondo opted to withdraw Ashraf Mugume and Saidi Mayanja at halftime, bringing on Brian Jjara and Derrick Nsibambi upfront.
The move by hosts limited KCCA’s presence in front of goal and even when they threw on another striker in Emmanuel Anyama later on in the second half, the supply was limited.
Maroons defended resolutely and collectively to earn a deserved point which takes them to seventh place on 16 points.
For KCCA FC, the result is a blow in their title pursuit, despite being joint-top on 27 points same as Police who defeated Calvary FC and Vipers that have two games in hand.
