The JT Lady Jaguars had their best run in the National Basketball League last season, playing in the championship round.
However, there was one glaring inadequacy in their roster. The Lady Jaguars did not have enough presence on the inside. While Mercy Batamuliza cleaned the boards, there was not enough scoring with Sarah Ageno hanging around the perimeter.
Sudi Ulanga could have found an immediate fix for the deficiency with the signing of Bridget Aber from the UCU Lady Canons and a long-term solution in Amy Chan from YMCA.
“The areas we have tried to improve asa team are the areas I think we struggledwith last season, and I believe the two (Aber and Chan) will add value to the ladies’ team.
“I have seen them play for some time and I believe they are going tobe a good fit and we should be in a much better position starting the season with those two additions,” says Ulanga.
“Bridget is a very good rebounder on both ends of the floor and gets a lot of points off offensive rebounds and I know she will contribute a lot but also if you designfor her post sets around the basket, she is very hard to defend, so it’s something we will workon throughout the season.”
The Lady Jaguars made sure of continuity, tying down shooting guard Brenda Kayaga, who had reportedly played out her contract.
Point guard Shakirah Nanvubya should now be comfortable on the side and take charge while Azida Nabayunga, who played as a four man last season and at times a stretch five, should be back to her natural position as a wing.
With the continuity in the side, the Lady Jaguars have a roster good enough to make the championship round again and probably go one better.
