NEC FC had to dig deep to claim all three points against Buhimba United Saints as the two teams faced off on Tuesday at the Royals Park, Butema, on the outskirts of Hoima City.
Despite taking an early lead through Innocent Media, NEC had to fight hard to hold onto the scoreline and see it through to claim all three points.
Coach Badru Kaddu made five changes from the team that drew 3-3 against Kitara on Saturday in Lugogo. Hannington Ssebwalunyo returned to goal in place of Benjmain Ochan, while Gideon Odongo started in left back ahead of Jackson Ssembatya.
The other changes saw Warren Buule partner Patrick Bayiga ahead of Ibrahim Musa, Allan Mugalu replaced Shamir Kimwero, while Emmanuel Kulanga got the nod ahead of Paul Mucureezi.
However, Kulanga’s race only lasted 12 minutes, and he was replaced by James Jarieko after sustaining an injury.
Two minutes later, NEC scored through Media, who found the back of the net thanks to Joseph Sseremba’s lay-up.
Despite efforts from the home side to salvage at least a point, NEC held on with Ssebwalunyo making several saves.
The result lifts NEC FC to seventh place on 19 points while Buhimba United Saints remain 12th with 13 points.
