The Karuma Rapids finally got off the mark on Matchday 3 of the women’s elite league, inflicting a second defeat on Itanda Kayakers.

In a pulse-setting game that went down to the last ball, the last wicket fell short of the extra run needed to take the game to a super over.

Karuma Rapids were down and out of it but with five runs required off six balls, the set Immaculate Nakisuyi gave away her wicket on the first ball of the final over and that was the sliding door moment that Karuma Rapids needed.

Rita Musamali held her nerve to defend the five runs, giving away just four runs and clinched the first win for the Rapids.

The win gives Karuma Rapids an outside chance of making the final on Sunday and continues the trend of the teams winning one and losing one on their doubleheader days.

In the morning game of Matchday 3, Stephanie Nampiina (62) led her team from the front with a well-crafted half-century and her partnership with Asumin Akurut (36) helped the Bujjagali Rafters post a commanding 126/7 in their 20 overs.

Proscovia Alako (47) offered the resistance for her side, but it wasn’t enough to stop Bujjagali Rafters from picking up their third win of the tournament to claim top spot.

The teams take a break on Friday, and action will resume on Saturday before concluding on Sunday.
