NEC FC and Express FC played out a hard-fought goalless draw in the Uganda Premier League at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the lack of goals, the encounter was characterised by high intensity and end-to-end action, providing plenty of entertainment for the modest crowd in attendance.
The fixture carried significant emotional weight for NEC Head Coach Badru Kaddu, who was facing his former employers for the first time since switching from the Red Eagles.
NEC dictated much of the tempo in the opening stanza, commanding the lion’s share of possession. However, they found it difficult to breach a resolute Express backline that remained compact and disciplined throughout the match.
The Red Eagles arguably had the best chance of the half to steal the lead. Forward Henry Wamala found himself in a promising position, but he failed to bury the opportunity, much to the relief of the home supporters.
Both tactical setups remained tight in the second half, with clear sights of goal remaining at a premium. As the game entered the final stages, both managers utilised their benches in an attempt to spark some late magic.
Despite the fresh legs, both goalkeepers remained alert, pulling off a series of composed saves to preserve their respective clean sheets.
The result leaves NEC in seventh position on the log with 20 points from 15 games. Express FC remains in 10th place, moving to 16 points as the first round of the 2025/26 season draws to a close.
