  • Final: Itanda Kayakers 103/4 beat Karuma Rapids 102 all out by 6 wickets

Karuma Rapids were on a red-hot streak of form after winning three games on the bounce that got them sneaking into the final from the bottom of the table.

Karuma Rapids ran over Itanda Kayakers in the morning short game that was interrupted by rain and that big win got them in the afternoon final, knocking out Bujjagali Rafters who were in second place. Karuma Rapids won by 10 wickets in a short chase to put themselves in a position of being crowned winners.

In the final, Karuma Rapids batted first. Captain Proscovia Alako (46) has been the go-to batter for the rapids, but she got no help from the rest of the team as the challengers posted a below-par total.

In the run chase, Itanda Kayakers Captain Janet Mbabazi (36) led from the front, and she got the support of Immaculate Nakisuyi (19) and Jimia Muhammad (28) to ensure that there is no wobble in the chase and clinch a six-wicket win.

The tournament featured a lot of young players, with many making a good impression on the high-performance team. Ruth Mwanga was named the most promising player for her all-around performances for the Bujjagali Rafters.

Proscovia Alako won the best batter award, Mitchel Ariago took home the best bowler, while Rita Musamali was crowned tournament MVP.

The men’s edition will start on Tuesday, featuring three teams with the same names.
