For the neutrals, the race in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title is where they want to be.
At one time, KCCA led the way before the Afcon break and looked to be favourites then.
However, a return of just seven points out of a possible 18 handed champions Vipers the initiative as they ended the first round six points clear at the top.
The Venoms were then seen as run-away leaders until the Fufa decision saw them lose the Kitara game by forfeiture and then back-to-back draws against BUL and NEC.
With Kitara, SC Villa, Entebbe UPPC, KCCA and Police collecting more points in the past two matches, the lead has now been trimmed to just two points at the top and only six points separate six from first.
It is still too early in the season but those dropped points by Ivan Minnaert’s charges has encouraged the chasers who now believe they are firmly in the race.
Vipers remain firm favourites but now know that any slip up could see the table summit flip.
