Uganda Silverbacks failed Angola’s tough assignment as the FIBA 2027 World Cup Qualifiers got underway.
Uganda Silverbacks lost to Angola 68-90 in a tough World Cup Qualifiers encounter at Borg Elarab Arena, Alexandria in Egypt on Thursday.
The Silverbacks’ show was characterised by back-to-back 35 turnovers that awarded Angola 40 points with ease.
Angola opened a huge 17-0 run before Fayed Baale responded with a 3-point jumpshot. At the end of the first stanza, Angola led with a 14-point (27-13) lead.
Uganda struggled with Angola’s physical presence at either side of the court and the full-court press that kept their ball handling at check.

In the second quarter, Uganda set up better plays and handled the ball slightly better. Nike Sibande opened the frame with a big dunk and concluded the quarter with a first break floating jumpshot as Uganda trailed by 18 points going into the halftime break.
Coming from the locker rooms, Silverbacks failed to deal with Angola’s switches and great screens as they their deficit widened to 27 points going into the final period.
In the final quarter, Uganda opened a 10-0 run to reduce their deficit to 15 points (75-60) with 06:44 minutes left on the clock forcing Angola into a timeout.
From that point, Angola collected 15 points before Peter Obleng’s jumpshot from downtown. At the end of the day, Angola secured a 27-point victory.

Selton Miguel (19 points), Childe Dundao (15 points), Kevin Kokila (13 points) Abou Gakou (10 points) and Islando Manuel (11 points) led Angola’s scoring chart.
Deng Geu (17 points), Nike Sibande (15 points) and Joel Kayira (10 points) scored double digits for the Silverbacks.
