In a move to bridge the gap between elite academics and athletic excellence, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School Kira has officially unveiled a new modern basketball court.

The commissioning ceremony, themed “Dribble your way to greatness,” drew a vibrant crowd of school administrators, parents, and key figures from Uganda’s basketball fraternity, signalling a new era for talent development at the grassroots level.

The facility was officially commissioned by Hudson Ssegamwenge, representing the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA).

Ssegamwenge lauded the school’s management for their foresight, noting that high-quality infrastructure is the backbone of national sports growth.

“Investing in facilities like this ensures that our young learners don’t just study hard, but grow into well-rounded athletes capable of competing at the highest levels,” Ssegamwenge remarked.

The day’s festivities reached a fever pitch with an exhibition game featuring top-tier talent from the National Basketball League (NBL). The Namuwongo Blazers and JT Jaguars faced off in a thrilling display of skill that left pupils and guests in awe.

Beyond the game, the learners had the rare opportunity to interact with local basketball icons.

The players spent time sharing career advice and signing autographs, offering the students a tangible glimpse into the discipline required for professional sports.

Headmistress Faridah Bukirwa expressed deep gratitude to the school’s board for their unwavering support of co-curricular activities.

She emphasised that the court is more than just a sports ground—it is a training hub for the school’s Thunderbolt Sports Academy and its participation in the Kampala Junior League.

“Our goal is to raise disciplined, confident learners. By balancing rigorous academics with structured talent programs, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow,” Bukirwa said, urging parents to take full advantage of the school’s diverse sports offerings.

The Kira branch’s new facility adds to the impressive portfolio of the Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools fraternity, which includes established campuses in Kisaasi, Mengo, Nakasero, Kitintale, and Old Kampala, alongside partner schools like Fairways Primary and Kyengera Parents’.
