Uganda’s team captain John Musiimenta expressed the readiness to take on Kenya in the prestigious Victoria Cup.

The National Council of Sports (NCS) General secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel has officially flagged off Uganda’s team to the 2026 Victoria Cup on Monday, 2nd March at the Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala.
Dr Ogwel had urged the team to fight for glory as the annual Victoria Cup that gets underway tomorrow with a practice round at the lake side Entebbe club.
“I urge you to fight for the flag and triumph on home soil. National Council of Sports is fully rallying behind you” Dr Ogwel who was flanked by the Uganda Golf Union president Dr Jackson Were spoke.

The NCS General Secretary also urged the Uganda Golf Union to maintain the programs of spreading the game to the countryside, outside the capital, Kampala.
Uganda’s team captain John Musiimenta expressed the readiness to take on Kenya in the prestigious Victoria Cup.
“We have been training well and with the home support behind us, we expect to deliver the positive results” Musiimenta vowed.
The team head coach Lt. Flavia Namakula eyes successful title defence after heroics at Mt Kipipiri last year. The professional golfer harbors a lot of hope in the solid team.
“The players have been training aggressively since 23rd February 2026. They are ready and eager for success. We have tried the different partnerships and I have the hope we shall defend our title” Lt. Namakula stated.
Lt Namakula’s charges compose of experienced golfers as two former Uganda open amateur winners in Andrew Ssekibejja and Joseph Reagan Akena.
The others are Anthony Otukei, Joseph Kasozi, Godfrey Kambale, Elton Thembo, John Musimenta (skipper), Abdul Kakeeto, Amon Bwambale and the 17-year old Peter Mayende.

The Victoria Cup is one of East Africa’s premier amateur match play events, bringing together Kenya’s leading amateurs and their Ugandan counterparts in a highly competitive contest that showcases regional excellence and national pride.
This year round, the Uganda Golf Union is hosting the tournament with support from several partners including MTN MoMo Uganda, Prudential Uganda, Crown Beverages Limited — makers of Aquafina — the National Council of Sports, and The R&A, the world governing body for golf.
