Kitara earned bragging rights in the highly anticipated Bunyoro derby on Friday, overcoming arch rivals Buhimba United Saints in front of a mammoth crowd at the Hoima City Stadium.

The game marked the first-ever League encounter played at the newly constructed stadium on the outskirts of Hoima City.

The mood and atmosphere this week has been one of excitement, with several people around the Bunyoro Region looking towards this game. Indeed, the fans turned up in big numbers as two teams from the same region faced off.

On the pitch, Kitara showed class, outwitting their counterparts 4-0 with all the goals coming in the first half.

Living Kabon, who returned to the club on loan from URA, and George Ssekaaba bagged a brace each to lead the Royals to victory.

As early as the fourth minute, Ssenkaaba tucked home from close range when Buhimba failed to clear the ball from a free kick outside the area.

Nine minutes later, the striker got his second of the day, capitalising on poor goalkeeping by Jamil Kiyemba, who failed to deal with a corner kick delivery, thus allowing Ssenkaaba to double the advantage.

Buhimba’s coach reacted by withdrawing goalkeeper Kiyimba for Ronald Mutebi in the 23rd minute. However, the change of personnel didn’t come with improved performance.

Mutebi conceded direct from Kabon’s free kick delivery in the 33rd minute before the forward got his second on the day, five minutes before the break.

The second half, which witnessed rain, was more controlled by Kitara, and despite improvement from the visitors, Buhimba, the Royals held on to claim all three points.

The result takes Kitara to within a point of leaders Vipers, who have 47 points and play Calvary on Saturday. Buhimba, on the other hand, remains 13th on the pile with 15 points.
