SC Villa returned to the winning trail on Saturday after defeating Entebbe UPPC 2-0 at the Fisheries Ground in Bugonga.

The Jogoos had gone two games without victory and thus needed to find a response to keep within the title talk. It is what they did on Saturday, claiming all three points on the road.

Lanky forward Frank Ssebufu and utility player Najib Yiga scored a goal each to guide Villa to victory.

Ssebufu fired the visitors into an early lead, heading home from Patrick Jonah Kakande’s cross in the 10th minute.

Yiga had an excellent chance to double the lead eleven minutes later, but goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa denied him.

However, Yiga made up for the missed chance a minute later, finishing off a well-worked team move with Hassan Mubiru assisting.

Entebbe bench reacted by withdrawing new signing Alhamad Sadik Nasur for Samuel Nsubuga at the half-hour mark.

Two minutes before the break, SC Villa nearly got their third through Mubiru, who made a solo run into the box before firing a powerful shot that ricocheted off the woodwork.

Despite improvement from the hosts in the second half, Villa defended resolutely to keep a clean sheet and take all three points.

The result means Villa pull up to fourth place on 41 points while Entebbe stay fifth on the table with 36 points.
