UCU Lady Canons completed the first round of the 2026 National Basketball League with a win against an arch rival.
UCU Lady Canons secured a well-deserved 80-57 victory against JKL Lady Dolphins in the 2026 National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.
Once again JKL Lady Canons turned up with a short-handed roster of only six players.
UCU Lady Canons came out of the blocks early with Sylivia Nakituuka getting the game underway with a long shot from downtown.
With five seconds to conclude the first period, Doreen Nakibuuka dropped one beyond the paint as the Lady Canons opened up a 13-point (23-10) lead.
In the second quater both sided became aggressive but also sharper on the offense. They were levelled 20-20 in the second quarter the the Lady Canons were in the driving seat at half time.
The Lady Canons kept the foot on the gas pedal as they extended their lead to 19 points. The Mukono-based side pushed the defending champions to a lot of work in the paint.
Despite a strong fight from the JKL Lady Dolphins, they trailed by 23 points on the end of the day.
Christine Saima (16 points), Sylvia Nakituuka (10 points) and Zoe Atek (10 points) led the Lady Canons’ scoring chart in double digits.
On the other hand, Ritah Imanishimwe (22 points), Oketch Flavia (13 points) and Tamasha Nsubuga (12 points) scored double digits for the Lady Dolphins.
