Team Uganda will hope for a perfect start at the CAF African Schools Championships which gets underway on Monday in Harere, Zimbabwe.

Represented by St. Mary’s Boarding School, Kitende, Team Uganda will not only be carrying the hopes of the nation but rather as a region as they face Zimbabwe today at 3:45PM (EAT).

The team moved to Zimbabwe as champions of CECAFA region in the boys’ category and coach Hassan Zungu is confident his troops are in perfect shape to compete.

“This is an exciting tournament that really allows us to measure ourselves against the best teams on the continent. We want to test ourselves and ensure that we are on the same level as the best in Africa, he said before adding, “we have been here for the last three editions and we want to use that experience to go all the way.”

Captain Owen Mukisa believes they will use this chance to test themselves against the best teams on the continent.

“This is the biggest school’s football competition in Africa and being here means we need to play to the best of our abilities and make our school and Uganda proud.” He stated

Uganda is in Group A that has hosts Uganda, DR Congo and Morocco.

Winners of the Continental Finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in both the boys and girls categories receive USD 300 000, with runners-up receiving USD 200 000, while third-place finishers each receive USD 150 000.
