Overview:

The theme of the 2026 UMEA Games was “Faith, Unity and Excellence through sports”.

2026 UMEA Solidarity Games:

  • Overall Champions: Gombe Secondary School – 5 Gold Medals
  • Runners up: Kibuli Secondary School – 4 Gold Medals

Mbale City was the perfect host as the 2026 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games at Nkoma Secondary School.

Gombe Secondary School once crowned as the overall champions of this competition with a total of five gold medals during the games that climaxed on Easter Monday, 6th April 2026 at Mbale City stadium.

Prince Dr. Kassim Nakibinge graced the official closure of these games as chief guest, lauding the entire organizing team, schools, players, coaches, fans and supportive partners.

“In these games, participation is the most important aspect and not winning because not everyone can win, but when we get together and know one another, we win in many ways.” Prince Dr. Nakibinge remarked.

Gombe S.S’ gold medals came from Handball (boys and girls), Scrabble (boys and girls) and chess (girls).

Record champions Kibuli Secondary School finished as the immediate runners up with four Gold medals.

Individual sports:

Kyaddondo Secondary School emerged as the champions of Boys Football after edging Masaka Secondary School 1-0 in a closely contested final.

Kawempe Muslim extended their dominance in Girls Football with their 7th title after beating hosts Nkoma Secondary School 2-0 in the final.

Prossy Namataka and Belinda Hope Nabawanuka were on target for Kawempe Muslim SS team.

Kawanda Secondary School successfully reclaimed the Netball title after emerging victorious in an epic final against Kadugala Secondary School while last year’s champions Greenlight Islamic Secondary School finished third.

Kawanda SS won the explosive final by a single goal; 31-30.

Kinaawa High School – Mugongo and Mbogo Mixed also won their record-extending Volleyball titles in the Girls and Boys categories respectively.

Kinaawa High School Mugongo beat Namagabi SS 3-0 in the girls final.

The competition entailed Football, Netball, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Scrabble and Chess.

“At this year’s edition, we have had 47 schools, 122 teams, with a total of 1591 participants, 764 girls and 827 boys. Nkoma SS has done exceptionally well in hosting these numbers successfully.” Chairperson Organizing Committee, Hajji Lwembawo Hussein Kyagulanyi.

The theme of the games was “Faith, Unity and Excellence through sports”.

Ahead of a grueling year anticipated, the UMEA Games are also envisaged a precursor to the upcoming USSSA Games for the 2026 season, among Muslim faith funded schools.
