Ibrahim Orit battling Emmanuel Munoobi at Hamz stadium

2026/27 UPL (Matchday 3)

  • Entebbe UPPC 0-1 Lugazi
  • SC Villa 2-0 Express

Lugazi Football Club humbled Entebbe UPPC to a 1-0 defeat at the Hamz Stadium during Matchday 3 of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League on Wednesday, 9th September 2026.

Forward Cromwell Rwothomio was the match winner, with the all-important goal coming after 82 minutes of the game.

Entebbe UPPC had the first offensive action when wide man Ibrahim Orit crossed from the left, but the effort was headed over by Ronald Kayondo inside the goal area after 10 minutes.

Lugazi roving right back Emmanuel Munooba, a former Vipers’ player, had an unattended cross into the hosts’ goal zone.

On the quarter-hour mark, Ibrahim Mugulusi shot out of the goal frame following a decent cutback from the left by Kayondo.

It was Entebbe UPPC once again as Ambrose Kigozi tapped over from Gift Jonathan Odongo’s cross down the right flank.

After 18 minutes, Entebbe UPPC defender Kelvin Barni got fouled 25 yards away from goal, but Kigozi shot way over the goal frame from the resultant free-kick.

Four minutes, Lugazi’s Dickson Matama had a weak shot on target, well tamed by goalkeeper Denis Otim before Mugulusi also registered a shot on target too moments later.

Orit executed a series of deliveries from the left flank towards the half-hour mark, but none was buried home.

Overlapping Entebbe UPPC right back Odongo shot over with the weaker left foot after 32 minutes.

The hosts called for a first-half change when Orit was replaced by Steven Munguchi after 38 minutes.

Brian Ade replaced Adam Mutesasiira as the second half kicked off.

Lugazi captain Richard Ayiko was cautioned for a deliberate foul on Entebbe UPPC playmaker Reich Triomphe Kokolo three minutes into the second half.

On the hour mark, Lugazi introduced Frank Mulimu for forward Jeremy Matata

Julius Poloto was introduced for Sharifu Ssengendo after 63 minutes as the hosts sought numbers upfront.

The closest moment Entebbe UPPC had to take the lead came in the 74th minute when Kayondo’s shot from 30 yards was pushed by goalkeeper Tonny Kyamera onto the crossbar before the shot-stopper recovered to get hold of the ball.

Munooba was stretchered off with a hamstring injury, and his place was taken by Vincent Zziwa with ten minutes left on the clock.

The visitors took the lead when forward Cromwell Rwothomio beat the off-side trap before firing a fierce shot through the legs of goalkeeper Otim in the 82nd minute.

Entebbe UPPC reacted swiftly with a double change, introducing Noordin Saddic Bunjo and Hassan Ssenyonjo for Mungunhi and Kokolo respectively.

Rwothomio was denied a second goal when he shot direct to the goalkeeper Otim during a one-against-one incident.

Lugazi held onto the slim lead to earn maximum points, away from home; a key statement early in the season.

Meanwhile, across town at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium, Sports Club Villa overcame traditional rivals Express 2-0.
