
Former Harambee Stars skipper Dennis Oguta Oliech has returned to active football after close to four years in retirement by joining Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia.
The former Ajaccio and Auxerre striker penned a two year deal with Gor Mahia and was unveiled as the club’s first signing in the January window.
Oliech was unveiled by club chairman Ambrose Rachier with the club Chief Executive Officer Lordvick Aduda confirming the gigantic forward has penned a two year deal.
“We are happy to bring him on board for two seasons,” Aduda told Nation Sport.
The former Mathare United star whose last competitive game came in June 2015 when Kenya lost to Zambia in Nairobi in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers has been training with the K’Ogalo.
“As you know, we’ve been in search of a local striker and his signing is a reprieve. The coach was already impressed with him in training,” he added.
K’Ogalo already have striking options in Rwandese import Jacques Tuyisenge, Ivorian Ephraim Guikan and Ugandan international Erisa Ssekisambu.
The ‘Menace’ as Oliech is fondly known in Kenya is regarded as one of the best players the country has produced and scored the goal against Cape Verde in 2003 that confirmed Harambee Stars’ ticket to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
He also scored in the 3-0 against Burkina Faso in the finals and is the country’s top scorer with 34 goals in 76 appearances for Kenya.
Gor Mahia currently lie 8th on the log with 6 points from four games.
