National Basketball League champions JKL Lady Dolphins did not have to be at the best to beat title rivals UCU Lady Canons.

The Lady Dolphins toyed to a 76-67 win over shorthanded Lady Canons on Friday night thanks to Hope Akello and Flavia Oketcho who showed out at different intervals.

The first quarter was a close that ended in favour of Lady Dolphins, 14-11. They, however, ran away in the second quarter as Lady Canons deficiency in terms of quality, especially in the backcourt, started to show.

Brenda Kayaga and Hajjara Najjuko missed lay-ups and turned over the ball with only Maimuna Nabbosa dragging on Lady Canons against a full strength JKL.

While Nick Natuhereza’s team was short on personnel with just eight players in the rotation, the team competed every time JKL went to their bench for options.

It was Oketcho that hit the big shots in the fourth quarter to tally team-high 19 points and iced the game a little for JKL who still lack cohesion on the court.

Akello added 16 points, many of which came in the first half and Ritah Imanishimwe tallied 12 points in another shooting slump where she went 5-of-18 from the floor. Jane Asinde racked up another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Zainah Lokwameri led Lady Canons’ losing effort with an efficient game-high 22 points. Nabbosa had 13 points and Kayaga scored 10.
