After a strong start to the 2022 National Rally Championship, Godfrey Aine Sodo has his eyes on this season’s national rally title.
Sodo, navigated by Derrick Lubambula in a Mitsubishi Evo9, secured a third-place finish in the season-opening event in Mbarara last weekend. It was his best career finish ever in the four years of rallying.

“My performance is what I needed to get in the competition again. I have been away because I joined politics and then covid came further restricting us from racing.
“A lot happened this weekend, we incurred a number of mechanical issues losing a lot of time. But luckily we persisted on and finished in a good position with points for the title,” said Sodo.
After being out of competition for two years, Sodo was classified in the Division Two category where he will be fighting for the season honours.

“I really wanted to fight for the NRC title this year, but if I was placed for another division, then I will have to switch focus.
“All I need this year is a title and the whole crew is focused on that. I have a good team, we practice often and now we need consistency,” he added.
The win in Mbarara puts Sodo and Lubambula in the lead of the Division Two category.

Ponsiano Lwakataka won the Mbarara victory followed by Fred Busulwa in second position.
The next National Rally Championship event will head to Jinja on 11-13 March.
